[classy=appdesc]Oh, hey Grove Hill, Alabama! Look who's it is! It's Darius Abel Carter! Oh, uh... perhaps you know them by their nickname, Dare? Anyway, this certain blessing in disguise came to us on November 5, and grew up to be a hefty five feet, eleven inches. You can always tell it's Dare because of his brown hair, brown eyes and constant gloves. Not to mention they've gotten themselves no tattoos, but pierced ears! You know, everyone says they look like diggy simmons? I personally don't see it though ....

[classy=app1]The fat lard of a principal looked over his papers with a rather disinterested attitude. He noticed you sitting down, but doesn't really have the courtesy to look up from his desk. To you, he says out loud. "Let's begin sha'll we? Tell me the basic details about yourself." With a cough, he shuffled through is papers and glanced at you once through his small eye glasses.

Darius had been sitting straight in the office for a while. He was okay with the silence, and honestly, he was quite used to it. Unless his sisters were together, the Carter wasn't an extremely talkative family. Darius shook the principal's hand when he entered, like a gentleman. He then listened respectfully before considering the best way to give out the "basic details." What was that, name? Age? Grade? All of that junk, he supposed. "My name is Darius Abel Carter. Most of my friends called me Dare, just 'cause Darius can be a mouthful." He voice was thoroughly tinged with several different kinds of "southern," primarily an Alabaman accent. "I turn fifteen on November fifth, so I'll be a freshman at this fine establishment. I don't rightly know what else is a basic fact." Darius scratched his head and fidgeted for a few seconds until the principal spoke again.

With a sigh, he leaned back in his chair, threw his glasses on the desk and ran his chubby fingers through thinning, greasy hair. He pinched the nose of his bridge and closed his eyes tightly as he said, "You know about the truth of this place. Now, I didn't invite you personally, my staff did. So please, give me a run down of your power." With his eyes still shut, the principal gestured with one arm toward you to begin.

Darius had explained his powers more than once. They weren't unique; there was a fancy name for them and everything. "Well, you can see that I'm wearing gloves, which is kinda unusual for this time of year. But, it's for a reason. My power is officially called "psychometry," (he dragged the word out syllable by syllable) but I like to call it sight-touch. Basically, when I touch something with my hands, I see and feel its entire life." Darius started pulling one of his leather gloves off. He always felt the need to 'prove' his power, even though he was sure the principal had seen much more impressive things. "It can be kinda weird when something has a long history, like people. I mean, I just get overloaded when I touch people. People hold on to memories better than objects do." Darius picked up a globe that had been tossed around by several students, smashed against a wall, and repaired. He set it down. There was a photo of the principal and his family, taken fifteen years ago at the park, developed three months after being taken, framed two days after that. There wasn't anything really interesting on the principal's desk. In the end, he picked up the name placard. "This has been on this desk for the past three years; before that, you hung it on the door... because the holder had broken." He closed his eyes and sorted out the memories before him. "It's aluminum, refined in Point Comfort, Texas, at an ALCOA Aluminum plant." He paused again, concentrated. "It was carved in Texas, too, but I can't quite see where. Huh. Guess it doesn't remember that." Darius took his sweet time putting his glove back on. "With things like that, it's easy to see its memories, since there really aren't too many, and like I said, inanimate objects don't really hold onto memories. People, though... People are like a blast. When I touch a person, I see their biggest memories, usually, along with a lot of other things I don't really enjoy knowing." Darius played with his glove some more, quiet. He had spoken a lot about one thing, something kind of unusual.

Finally, his eyes opened groggily. However, he wasn't much warmer. He yawned loudly and largely as he looked over your paper. With eyes watery and face red he continued, "I see why we would have invited you. Let's see..ah yes. Mind telling a bit about your family and where you're from?"

Darius took a deep breath. "I was born in a tiny town called Grove Hill, Alabama. It's got a population only of about fifteen hundred. My gramma and granpa live there, and both of my parents were born there. They kinda had a travelin' bug, though, and moved around a lot after they were married. I've lived in Grove Hill, Montgomery, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, B�nouville, Jacksonville, Tallahassee. We spent a lot of time in Grove Hill. It was kind of our go to place; there was always somewhere for us there. We moved around so much because my mom and pop had to for work. Mom was a nurse, and Pop was a doctor; the two of them ran a sort of free clinic type thing. We lived in big cities sometimes, workin' with poorer people without insurance, and sometimes we lived in tiny towns that didn't really have a doctor." Darius had been very matter of fact about all of this, but he added a little emotion in the next few sentences. "Honestly, I didn't mind moving. When my powers were first developing, like, when I was seven or so, it was really hard to remember what people had told me, and what I had learned from touching them. People don't take too kindly to you knowing all their secrets. Gettin' to move around meant making new friends, and forgetting all the things I knew from before." He sighed, and started tipping back in his chair. This interview was tiring. "I have three older sisters, Aliza, Naomi, and Eve. Aliza and Naomi are twenty-one, and Eve is seventeen. We've all got biblical names, in case you haven't really noticed. My parents are fairly devout." Darius left it at that, not mentioning how much he disagreed with religion in general. It didn't make much sense to believe in some supernatural force that created everything and just... left it. Darius had seen some things that seriously dampened his opinions on humanity and its nature.

While you were talking, the principal had made himself comfortable by leaning back in his chair and intertwining his fingers. "Hmpf. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans in the future? Outside of AMG?"

Darius let all four legs of his chair touch the ground. "Oh, I'm not too sure. I'm only a freshman, so my goals are still pretty broad. My dream is to play on the NBA, because who wouldn't love that? Other than that... I wouldn't mind doing something like advertising, or something along those lines." He chuckled. "I like that show Mad Men too much, probably. I just want to make some money."

He looks much more interested now, rather awake and in a slightly better mood. "Tell me, do you have any hobbies?" he inquired, creating soft jazz hands at the word 'hobbies' as if to mock it. "You're aware that it may be difficult to continue these on the island, as you may not leave outside of break?" It was more of a statement than a question.

Darius sighed. "I have heard it's pretty difficult to get off of this island. My sisters have all gone here, so it's not a surprise. Eve still goes. Anyways, I just like playing basketball, which I'm pretty dang good at, and that's about it." Darius neglected to mention his secret love of poetry. He really enjoyed Harlem-era poetry the best. But it is a secret, and not something that is going to be broadcasted.

The principal crossed his fat arms and leaned on his desk. In a much more serious tone, he asked, "Be honest, child. How do you feel about all of this...supernatural stuff?" his shoulders shrugged as he said it.

Darius was, big surprise, quiet for a few moments. He really needed to think about his answer. "I feel like I know more than I should sometimes, but I've got it controlled pretty well by now, so I'm... used to it." Like his love of poetry, there was something here Darius didn't mention. He was pretty cynical for a kid his age, and as such, he suspected that the whole 'superpowers' thing meant it was time for people to become.. better. He knew people's secrets, their actions. He didn't know people's thoughts, but their feelings could go right along with them. He felt like people with powers could be better, if they wanted. They weren't really developed feelings, not quite. More of a sense of what people were, and what they could be.

He leaned back on the chair that squeaked under his weight. "I see. Personally, I have mixed feelings. Anyway, we're finished now." The Principal grunted loudly as he got up to shake your hand. "It was a pleasure meeting you, do you have any questions for AMG?" he added, as he let go of your hand and buzzed the receptionist to lead you out.

Darius shook the principal's hand again, nodding. "Thank you for this interview, sir." He was really grateful for the gloves today. Who knows what kind of secrets Principal Greedyguts held? Somehow, Darius knew he did not want to know anything about this man's past.
