JARED LIAM ROBINSON
SEVENTEEN. EGOTISTIC. SMUG. LOYAL. SINGLE.
Oh, hey Castles! Look who's it is! It's Jared Liam Robinson! Oh, uh... perhaps you know them by their nickname, Jared? Anyway, this certain blessing in disguise came to us on September 2nd, and grew up to be a hefty 6' 2''. You can always tell it's Jared because of their chocolaty brown and messy hair, green eyes and perfectly manicured eyebrows and a beauty mark above his lip. Not to mention they've gotten themselves zero tattoos! You know, everyone says they look like Freddie Rayner? I personally don't see it though ....
The fat lard of a principal looked over his papers with a rather disinterested attitude. He noticed you sitting down, but doesn't really have the courtesy to look up from his desk. To you, he says out loud. "Let's begin sha'll we? Tell me the basic details about yourself." With a cough, he shuffled through is papers and glanced at you once through his small eye glasses.
A smile appeared on his face, revealing his deep set dimples. This was one of his favourite topics of conversation. What, a guy can't talk about himself? It was one of the few topics he knew everything about. "Hah. Well, I'm Jared Liam Robinson. Born on September second. I am currently seventeen years old and I am enrolled as a junior at your school." Jared paused for a moment in his speech to compose what he was going to say next. There was so much to talk about himself. "I excel in all sports and at school. Not to mention I am often called a social butterfly. I think I would make a great addition to your school. And no, I wasn't held back; I just started kindergarten late."
He wanted to impress this guy. He's had enough of those shitty high schools around town. This was the only place in the whole town than looked decent. Besides, he was invited; how could he resist?
With a sigh, he leaned back in his chair, threw his glasses on the desk and ran his chubby fingers through thinning, greasy hair. He pinched the nose of his bridge and closed his eyes tightly as he said, "You know about the truth of this place. Now, I didn't invite you personally, my staff did. So please, give me a run down of your power." With his eyes still shut, the principal gestured with one arm toward you to begin.
At first, Jared was a bit confused. Shouldn't a principal know the ins and outs of his school? Well, perhaps not, since there seemed to be a high enrolment rate. And it was true, he was invited by staff, not by the principal. He played a long and explained his power. "I can manipulate light. I can any source of light dimmer or brighten. I first discovered it while my parents were having an argument. You know, typical marital disputes. Anyway, I was about six or seven, and I was so stressed that I had actually made all the light disappear. It's literally like your world fades to black. I was so scared at first, but once my mom found me and held me on the dark, it immediately lit up."
"From then on, I've been practising how to lighten and darken the world around me. It's like there is a terrible itch inside my head that I can't scratch. But I've gotten so used to it, it's merely a tickle now. I often wonder if the sensation will ever disappear.... Any-whoo, I'm only able to dim and brighten a certain shades when I'm not stressed; otherwise I can blind you if I'm under great pressure."
Jared's words sounded rehearsed, but trust me when I say that Jared would have never rehearsed. He's quite confident in himself, and assures himself that he doesn't need to do silly things like practise his interview. He's just lucky that he has a wide vocabulary and did a lot of reading as a kid.
"I actually love my power. As a kid, I read a lot of novels. I could read through out the night because I can make it really bright in my room. I also had good sleeps. I would turn off all lights so I wouldn't get any disturbances. Well, I still do those things." Jared laughed a little and gave himself an imaginary pat on the back. "I know it's kind of lame, but it pays off in the long run."
Finally, his eyes opened groggily. However, he wasn't much warmer. He yawned loudly and largely as he looked over your paper. With eyes watery and face red he continued, "I see why we would have invited you. Let's see..ah yes. Mind telling a bit about your family and where you're from?"
The smile on Jared's face remained. He loved all this 'talk about yourself' stuff. It was like he was going to therapy without the steeply cost. "Well, if you must know, I am born to Elizabeth and William Robinson of Castles. It was my great grand-mother who had been experimented on. A real shame, what they did to her. They had kid-napped her, because she was an apparent 'threat to the country'. I mean, a seamstress? A threat? I doubt. Anyway, my mother was born with severe hearing problems and then I was born with the ability to manipulate light."
Jared took a moment to think about what he should say next. There were many different aspects of his family he could talk about...he just needed to find the most relevant things to mention to the principal. "I am an only child. This doesn't come as a surprise to others." he rested his elbow on the arm rest and intertwined his fingers. "Although, I've always wanted a younger brother. Anyway, our house was quite average, in the main part of town. I don't suppose that's important though."
While you were talking, the principal had made himself comfortable by leaning back in his chair and intertwining his fingers. "Hmpf. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans in the future? Outside of AMG?"
His hand untangled his other fingers so he could scratch his chin thoughtfully. Truth to be told, he doesn't know what he was going to do with his future. I mean, he was still just a freshman; he still had a long time to figure it out right? Whatever. "I'm not sure what I want to take up. I've thought about sports, but I never take it too seriously...so I imagine my career will be shattered by an accident and I won't have a back up plan. Perhaps law? I seem to be witty enough to work around the rules..."
He looks much more interested now, rather awake and in a slightly better mood. "Tell me, do you have any hobbies?" he inquired, creating soft jazz hands at the word 'hobbies' as if to mock it. "You're aware that it may be difficult to continue these on the island, as you may not leave outside of break?" It was more of a statement than a question.
"Hobbies? You mean sports right? Uh... like I said, sports. I'm good at pretty much all of them. I don't mean to brag--" Jared sat up straight and tried to recover from the serious blow he had just encountered--"I just naturally am coordinated and strong... like most boys, I suppose."
He looked down at his hands, which were now resting on each of his knees. Jared knew he sometimes had a bad habit of boasting about his athletics and power. It usually lead to trouble, so he's been trying to kick the habit before it got out of hand. Jared knew first hand how your words could be turned around and used against you.
The principal crossed his fat arms and leaned on his desk. In a much more serious tone, he asked, "Be honest, child. How do you feel about all of this...supernatural stuff?" his shoulders shrugged as he said it.
His elbows rested on the arm rests and his eyebrows furrowed. What did he think of this all? "To be honest, I think it was wrong what they did to my grandmother. But in a way, I'm thankful. If it wasn't for it, I wouldn't have this amazing gift I have now. If everything was 'normal', I'd be working mostly on sports, living a miserable life in a shi--less than satisfactory school system. I also like what AMG is doing to help those who don't necessarily have their power under control. And even if you do, AMG is a great place to meet people like you... I remember how lonely I was during Elementary and Middle school because I didn't know anyone else with special powers like me..."
He leaned back on the chair that squeaked under his weight. "I see. Personally, I have mixed feelings. Anyway, we're finished now." The Principal grunted loudly as he got up to shake your hand. "It was a pleasure meeting you, do you have any questions for AMG?" he added, as he let go of your hand and buzzed the receptionist to lead you out.
"Nope! I have my co-ed form here for my dorm .... when can I sign up? Haha, only kidding of course. ... But not really."
