KADY LENNA KNOX
FIFTEEN. ENERGETIC. SWEET. UNSURE. ALONE.
Oh, hey Orlando, Florida! Look who's it is! It's kady lenna knox! Oh, uh... perhaps you know them by their nickname, kady or kitty? Anyway, this certain blessing in disguise came to us on february 11th, and grew up to be a hefty 5‘2“. You can always tell it's kady because of their black hair, dark brown eyes and full lips. Not to mention they've gotten themselves one tattoo! You know, everyone says they look like zoe kravitz? I personally don't see it though ....
The fat lard of a principal looked over his papers with a rather disinterested attitude. He noticed you sitting down, but doesn't really have the courtesy to look up from his desk. To you, he says out loud. "Let's begin sha'll we? Tell me the basic details about yourself." With a cough, he shuffled through is papers and glanced at you once through his small eye glasses.
Kady smiled, her usual, happy, warm smile. The kind of thing that made people wonder if she was generally just happy and excited for anything or if she was on something, cause no one had a right to be the genuine. However Kady was always sincere. “Uh… well my name is Kady Lenna Knox, that’s Kay-dee,” she was nervous, that was probably clear at this point, but her tone remained light, ever her jovial self “but people just call me Kady, or Kitty”. The teen’s voice held a hint of a giggle at the last part, her cheek burning ever so slightly as she recalled how she gained the nick name. A story involving a cat and a funny little girl who thought she was such a creature as well. “I’m going to be sixteen and three months!” The sudden shift in her was apparent, her excitement rampant thanks to that face, “but I’m still fifteen, technically, I’m also a sophomore.” The sigh which passed Kady’s lips was probably only understandable to her, her regret of not taking an advance in grade when she had had the chance weighing on her slightly. Honestly Kady had only held herself back from becoming and early junior for one thing, and now that she was at AMG and he wasn’t… well she was kicking herself because of it all.
With a sigh, he leaned back in his chair, threw his glasses on the desk and ran his chubby fingers through thinning, greasy hair. He pinched the nose of his bridge and closed his eyes tightly as he said, "You know about the truth of this place. Now, I didn't invite you personally, my staff did. So please, give me a run down of your power." With his eyes still shut, the principal gestured with one arm toward you to begin.
Eyes grew wide when the aging man before her spoke. Kady knew that everyone knew here, the school had a purpose, she wasn’t just there for the hell of it after all. “W-Well… I-I-I…” that nervous stutter of hers reared it’s ugly head, all of her body was tense. Kitty was still getting used to all this, getting used to the fact that she didn’t have to hide what really made her, her. After a moment of avoid eye contact at all costs Kady gave in. Eyes flicked to a pen on the principal’s desk, “well” she said, slightly calmer, more consise, a dark sense over coming her, eyes locked on the pen. After a moment the pen jumped suddenly, lifting shakily, Kady let it hover a moment, still trying to get a grasp on this power, then her head turned as did her gaze and the pen flew quickly toward the wall, lodging itself among the plaster. The girl jumped, that was not what she had meant to do, no she simple meant to move it off the desk, not damage the wall with it’s ball point. “I’m so sorry! I-I-I-I d-d-didn’t m-mean to!” there was a pained, rather frightened look on her face, Kitty didn’t have control of any of this yet. After a moment of staring at her hand, wishing the floor would swallow her up Kitty’s mouth opened once more “that’s… m-my power right n-now…” she spoke softly, sullenly.
“Your secretary, she’s… l-like me, and I” the dark haired girl paused, how would she put this, how could she say this, “I copied her abilities” a slight wince over came Kady’s face, that sounded ridiculous, insane even. ‘Mimicked Kitty, you Mimicked her powers, it’s call Mimicry you dope’ the girl’s mind was never as kind to herself as it should be, but none the less it was at least honest. “When I touch s-s-someone, even if I j-j-just b-bump into them, brush by th-them or sh-shake their hand, if they have a p-power I gain it t-t-too.” Kitty couldn’t shake stutter right then and there, this whole thing was far too frightening and uncomfortable for her “but it doesn’t l-last forever… so far the l-longest I’ve had a p-p-power was three d-days. The sh-shortest was an hour. I-It seems if I‘m not n-near the p-person who has the power it only l-lasts a f-few hours…” Kady didn’t know what that had to do with anything, but at this point her nervous rambles were starting to take effect.
Finally, his eyes opened groggily. However, he wasn't much warmer. He yawned loudly and largely as he looked over your paper. With eyes watery and face red he continued, "I see why we would have invited you. Let's see..ah yes. Mind telling a bit about your family and where you're from?"
Kitty allowed herself a few minutes, discretely taking a few deep breaths to calm herself, there was no way she was going to have a panic attack, not right now. There was no way she was going to let that happen not over something so silly. Finally, taking one last deep breath and sighing, Kady looked to the principle, the same smile as earlier dancing on her face, if not obviously a tiny bit forced. “Well I was born in Washington state and grew up all over the place, Mom moved a lot, she claims she’s a gypsy, but most like to call her a hippie or say that she just has commitment issues. To me she’s just Mom, a little eccentric, a bit off her rocker, but totally awesome and loveable” the smile on her face changed as she talked of her Mother. It became entirely authentic, finally reaching her eyes, her mother always had that effect, whether the woman was in the room or not. “Most recently though we were in Florida, Orlando to be exact. Home of Disney!” a giggle passed Kady’s lips remembering her first and only visit, just one week prior to all of this. She had been nervous then, never having been to Disney, not to mention who had taken her. It had only taken a few seconds until the ‘magic’ of Disney set in and Kady had been relaxed, a little kid in her own right. Looking back the teen was both grateful and loathing of that fact. Grateful because if she hadn’t have been herself she never would’ve had her first kiss three days later. Loathing because if she hadn’t of been then she wouldn’t have had that kiss and she wouldn’t be where she was now. No, she’d be home, if Mom, soaking up the Florida sun, being normal. She’d be getting nervous for the dance that was tomorrow, probably worrying that the boy who caused this all wasn’t going to like her dress. Or some how suddenly decided that he didn’t like her back.
Now it seemed silly that only three days ago those were her biggest problems. Realizing, suddenly, that she had dazed off Kady blushed and pushed on, “Daddy left before I was born, I guess he was like me and Mom, but according to Mom he was dangerous, he couldn’t control his powers and when I was born… well again all it takes is one little touch…” Kady hadn’t known any of this a week ago. Up until three days ago she had been told her whole life only that her father left, never given a reason. Then again perhaps that was better than knowing the truth, knowing that she had copied his power the first time he held her and being so little had no control. The burn mark on her left thigh made sense now. Still she’d never understand how her father could blame himself for the fire she had started in the hospital, or how her mother didn’t know what Kitty was capable of from the start. “Oh, Mom’s like me too, well except she doesn’t Mimic. Mom’s a… what’s it called? A sensor? Something like that, basically she can sense people’s powers and when she’s near them, if they haven’t yet, then they come into their powers.” If she was being honest Kady was still upset that her Mother had kept all this secret from her. Maybe if she would’ve known she could’ve stopped it all from happening. “I came here because… well something happened” Kitty paused, not sure how much the principle already knew. “I set a fire in my school, entirely on accident of course!” Of that fact Kady wanted to make sure the man before her knew, Kitty was no pyro, she just didn’t know what she was doing, hell she wasn’t even aware of it until it was too late. “I didn’t know I could do what I can do until it was too late. There’s a b-b-boy… I didn’t know he was different… that I was like him, but I mimicked his p-p-power without knowing it and… well my old school burned down. All of it. Because I didn’t know,” a teacher and three students would now be forever scarred because of her. Hell they could’ve died if the very boy who caused this hadn’t of saved them, many more probably would’ve lost their lives if he hadn’t knocked her out. It had all been a mess, it still was, and no matter what she did Kady still couldn’t get the smell of fire off her mind.
Everything happened quickly after that, the ash had barely settled and she was whisked away to AMG. It was best for everyone’s sake. It was safest. “Other than that I lived a pretty normal life, I’ve been to a lot of different school, lived in more city’s and towns in this big ol’ world than I care to admit. I thought I was a normal-ish little girl up until last week,” she shrugged “but things change.” That was the truest thing Kady knew, the only thing she really had left to cling to.
While you were talking, the principal had made himself comfortable by leaning back in his chair and intertwining his fingers. "Hmpf. You should fit right in. May I ask, what are your plans in the future? Outside of AMG?"
Her smile had waned as she had talked about everything that had happened, but now it was back. The future was something Kady often thought about, she always wondered what like would be like, what‘d she do with herself. She thought she knew, but recently she had become increasingly more uncertain. “Well I want to be a photographer. I’d love to travel the world and take pictures of everything along the way. Maybe be a photographer for National Geographic Magazine, or even just do it for myself.” Kady was on the news paper and year book committee in her old school, the photographer for both, “I like to write too, so maybe journalism as well” she mused. It all sounded terribly exciting and crazy, it’d be an adventure of a life time, at least that’s what she had always thought before.
“Other than that I plan to go to college, I’ve got my eyes set on Columbia and I’ve already gotten a scholarship to the college of my choice through my academics.” Kady was intelligent, something most never thought because she seemed so naive, so young, so careless. Most mistook her for an airhead, but really she had been the top in her class in her old school. It was why they had allowed her to skip third grade, as well as why they had wanted her to skip sophomore year. Kady had always been a fast learner, always loved gaining knowledge, retaining it like a sponge. It was just something that came easy for her, much easier than throwing herself to the wolves, or simply putting herself out there to get to know her peers. Kitty didn’t have a problem making friends, so long as they made the first move and weren’t scared off by her vibrant personality or her circumstantial stutter. “Really though life will take me where I need to go. At least that’s what Mom always tells me.”
He looks much more interested now, rather awake and in a slightly better mood. "Tell me, do you have any hobbies?" he inquired, creating soft jazz hands at the word 'hobbies' as if to mock it. "You're aware that it may be difficult to continue these on the island, as you may not leave outside of break?" It was more of a statement than a question.
“Well,” she started, rather amused now, “I love to write and listen to music, I love to sing, though I don’t know if I’m any good” Kady chuckled, she sang mostly in the car or the shower, she was too shy to do so in front of most people. “I also adore photography, but I think I made that clear before.” Kady was silent for a moment after his comment, her jaw set, “well, that may be so, but with all do respect, I intend to live myself regardless of being trapped here. If that means finding a loop hole, working around something, what have you, then so be it.” For the first time during the entire interview her tone of voice was rather curt, if not slightly demeaning. Kitty was always respectful, ever the sweetheart, but sometimes she was pushed just a little too much and that temper which lived deep inside her would flare. Kady suddenly realized she was getting a bit emotional when the things on the principles desk began to rise into the air, hovering, shaking. Surprise claimed her and the objects came crashing down, “I’m s-s-s-sorry!” She stammered, ashamed not only that he had gotten the best of her but also for the fact that she still obviously had no control over anything.
The principal crossed his fat arms and leaned on his desk. In a much more serious tone, he asked, "Be honest, child. How do you feel about all of this...supernatural stuff?" his shoulders shrugged as he said it.
Kady was now on the verge of hyperventilating, “I-I didn’t want this, I d-d-didn’t want a-any of this. I-If I c-could I’d end it all r-right n-now,” she paused trying to regain some sort of composure, shifting in her seat. “B-But I can’t. So I’m j-j-just going to h-have to deal with all this” Kitty had resigned herself to that fact, there was no way she could change genetics and there was no way she could blame her parents for this. It was a fluke, just something that happened, no ones fault, but now she had no choice but to live with it. It was something that could not be undone.
He leaned back on the chair that squeaked under his weight. "I see. Personally, I have mixed feelings. Anyway, we're finished now." The Principal grunted loudly as he got up to shake your hand. "It was a pleasure meeting you, do you have any questions for AMG?" he added, as he let go of your hand and buzzed the receptionist to lead you out.
“No…” the petite teen replied softly before standing up, she avoided taking his had in hers. Her power, as far as she knew, only allowed for one power at a time, judging by the way the man acted Kady didn’t want to take any chances in case he was more powerful than he seemed. As she escaped the office she made it a point to also avoid contact with the secretary. Yes she had already copied the woman’s power, but now it was more out of the need for personal space while Kady attempted to calm her frazzled self.
Kady smiled, her usual, happy, warm smile. The kind of thing that made people wonder if she was generally just happy and excited for anything or if she was on something, cause no one had a right to be the genuine.
