14. INNOCENT. CLASSY. HETEROSEXUAL. DATING IN SECRET.
[classy=appdesc]Oh, hey New York! Look who's it is! It's Maslynn Lia Roy! Oh, uh... perhaps you know them by their nickname, Massy? Anyway, this certain blessing in disguise came to us on august seventh, and grew up to be a hefty 5' 1". You can always tell it's Massy because of their blonde hair, gray eyes and judging-you stare. Not to mention they've gotten themselves no tattoos! You know, everyone says they look like Elle Fanning? I personally don't see it though ....

EXTERIOR
{basics. what are all of the dirty paperwork details?}
Maslynn is a freshman. She's 15 and she's only into boys. She's from New York, New York. She lives with her mother and her grandmother in a large-ish house. She's upper middle class, and she has two brothers, one older, and one younger. The younger one is adopted. She's extremely nervous, especially with people that she doesn't know. Living arrangements may be difficult because of this. It's possible that she also has a mild form of OCD, but she's never had it diagnosed. She takes medicine for anxiety and panic attacks. She hasn't had either on a large scale since she was very young, though, and the risk factor is slight.
STUPOR
{power. what makes you a super baby?}
Massy feels a bit light-headed. She doesn't want to talk about it. Who does he think he is, asking her these questions? He has no right. Shouldn't he know all these things already? He's a terrible principal. She wants to leave. She fidgets in her chair and sticks her hands between her bony thighs. She licks her chapped lips and takes a moment to formulate a proper response.
"I can change peoples' moods, and I can sense them to a certain extent. It's sort of like . . . stretching a blanket a certain way with my mind. I use it all the time without noticing, but . . ." Massy swallowed hard, debating over whether or not she should tell him about how she first discovered she could do it. Um, when I was nine, my dad got really upset with my mother, and he was yelling at her and he pulled a gun on her, and then I tugged hard at one corner of his mood and suddenly he started sobbing uncontrollably. And . . . I was scared to do it again, but he was so miserable all of a sudden that he pressed it to his head, you know, and . . . Bam.
Massy had been staring down, concentrating hard on a small rip in her jeans, but now she looked up through her eyelashes to see his reaction. I'm, uh, a lot better at controlling it now, I think. I'm starting to learn how to get certain reactions."
POSH-TERIOR
{attitude. do or do not play well with others?}
Massy is very sweet by nature. She has a big heart and, being an empath, she has a natural disposition to want everyone to be happy. However, she's very bad at starting conversations and social situations make her very nervous when she isn't comfortable with or isn't familiar with anyone involved. She especially does not like to be in smaller groups (3-10) of people. Large crowds, however, she is perfectly okay with. As a dancer, she had to learn to handle them early on. She is also comfortable in a spotlight-type situation. Once she begins to break out of her shell, Massy can occasionally be funny. However, she's almost always the voice of reason in any sort of reckless situation, and she is very bad at being criticized, especially in public, even if it's constructive (unless it's about dancing). She isn't sure how to handle those situations and may crack under the pressure.
LULLABY
{sensitivities. what makes you tick?}
Social interactions, being called boring, and being criticized are all triggers for an unhappy Massy. Most of the time, you'll find that Massy is uncomfortable with herself, however she can be come agitated or angry with someone who attacks her friends or her siblings. Because Massy's older brother is very overprotective of her and because her friends tend to behave in a similar way, she has a sensitivity to being smothered. Most of the time, she doesn't mind. She even enjoys it. But on occasion, it can cause her to become upset with her friend if they go too far. Massy loves to talk about her older brother, but you probably won't hear about the adopted one--she barely knows him, and feels like she's being replaced with him anyway. Massy does not tend to discuss her power, her past, or her family aside from Mark. She's very passionate about school, dancing, and her friends. She doesn't tend to say much, but when she does talk, Massy tries her best to be honest with her observations and her feelings. She's a hopeless romantic, but for now that isn't very important.
REARVIEW
{history. did it make you who you are?}
Massy was very reluctant to answer this new question. Her home life wasn't the best. It could be worse, she knew, but she definitely wasn't winning a feel-good-family-of-the-year award anytime soon.
Well, um, things were pretty great when I was younger. I have an older brother, Mark. He's older than me by seven years. We, the four of us--my dad, my mom, Mark, and I--all lived in a nice house in a small town with my grandmother. It was nice. We were happy. A smile danced briefly across Massy's face. But there was something that was always kind of haunted about my mom. I didn't find out until after the incident with my dad what it was. She took Mark and I into her room and told us about the experiments that had been done on my dad. She was very calm, you know. But now I think she sort of resents me for what I did.
Massy looked up and suddenly wished she could take back her last statement. Her cheeks colored, but she went on. "Anyway, um, Mark hasn't got anything wrong with him. Not that any of us know. He moved out three years ago, but we're still close. We write to each other a lot and video-chat. He doesn't like phones, though. My mother and I are alright, if a bit strained. And my grandmother passed when I was maybe seven. So it's just been my mother and I for a while."
She wondered if her damaged home life was going to ruin her chances of getting into the school. "She's really supportive, my mom. She does a lot of work with foster care, and she adopted James--he's ten--about a month ago. Massy had stopped fidgeting and her voice was growing more confident. She was beginning to settle into her comfort zone.
MODGE PODGE
{miscellaneous. did you forget something?}
Massy has been dancing since she was very young. It's her one and only "vice". Her biggest dream is to be a dancer in Paris, and then, when she's too old ro perform, she plans to open a school there. However, because she is and empath and because the struggle of it has affected such a huge part of her personality, it would be very difficult for Massy to go to Paris; there are entirely too many people there. That, even aside from nearly killing her own father, is one of the main reasons that Massy is very guarded and one of the main causes for any unhappiness. She's also very lost because of her power; she's usually very unsure of how she really feels about something. She can see how she feels, but it's not the same as her real feelings.
