24. IMPULSIVE. GOOFY. HETEROSEXUAL. BABYMAMA.
[classy=appdesc]Oh, hey NYC! Look who's it is! It's Rachel Horak! Oh, uh... perhaps you know them by their nickname, Ray? Anyway, this certain blessing in disguise came to us on July 26, and grew up to be a hefty 5' 4". You can always tell it's Rachel because of their constantly changing hair, brown eyes and squeaky laugh. Not to mention they've gotten themselves a huge collection of water guns! You know, everyone says they look like Azealia Banks? I personally don't see it though ....

BASICS: power/occupation/living space
POWER:Ever since she was a tiny baby, Rachel has had the ability to change her hair color, style, length, and texture at will. Because she had very little trouble learning to control the simple power, and because she already attended a prestigious prep school, Rachel never went to AMG. Neither she nor her parents felt that she needed to do so. However, her older brother and cousin both attended at the same time, and she's heard several stories about the place.
OCCUPATION:Ray works part time as a cosmetologist and a video-game tester. While she can't change anyone else's hair with her power, learning to cut, style, and color hair manually was an extremely fun process for Ray, and it also helped her to learn the ins and outs of her ability. Video-game testing, well, who wouldn't want that job? Her yearly income is around 35k.
LIVING SPACE:Ray lives with her daughter Keeda in a small, rented townhouse. Space is tight and meeting the rent isn't always the easiest thing to do, but there's a backyard big enough for her elderly golden retriever, Ghandi, and a comfortable bed. The furniture is quirky, mismatched, and brightly colored. Ray frequents garage sales and the flea market. Many of her furniture pieces tend to have a story behind how she got them. Ask for a tour one day, and you'll be there for hours. The most interesting piece is Keeda's crib, which once belonged to her sister. Once upon a time, Ray was gifted the crib when she could hardly afford the shirt on her back. It was a very stressful time for everyone, so they made a weekend out of refinishing the crib. Because neither of them knew what they were doing, the crib is now lopsided with different-sized everything and an awkwardly painted mural. It may or may not need to be thrown away before Keeda is old enough to recognize the shape of a penis.
Ray Says:I will probably give it to her for her sixteenth birthday, penises and all. Come on, though. What teenager wouldn't want a hand-painted crib for their sixteenth birthday? I mean, it's not like I'll be able to afford a car for her. She'll love it if she's anything like me. Which she is, since she's already started throwing food around the house like it's nobody's business.

PAST: family/childhood/hardships/present
FAMILY:Ray comes from a large, tight-knit family. Her parents are both surgeons, so money was never an issue when it came to the number of kids that they had. Their oldest is currently 29. James is a lawyer at a firm in Louisiana. Though he adores all three of his younger siblings as well as his parents and extended family, his work keeps him extremely busy and he doesn't get to see his family very often. However, he did send Ray a laptop with a built-in webcam for her birthday which she uses to get on Skype with him, as well as the rest of her family and Gage. The second oldest is Jasmine, who works as an accountant. She's Ray's best friend and partner in crime. They're equally goofy, although Jasmine is more level-headed and less impulsive. She often serves as the voice of reason for both Ray and her little brother. Rachel was born within a year of her sister. However, she is six years older than her brother Shawn. While, as a young girl, Ray was very against losing her status as the baby, almost as soon as he was born and she was allowed to hold him for the first time, Rachel fell in love with her baby brother. From then on, she was very protective over him and she doted on him like you would not believe. She got in a fight or two for him, and she loved him obviously more than her other two siblings. They were inseparable until the day she moved out to go to cosmetology school, and still get together very often. He wants to be a stock broker. Rachel is also close to her aunt Wynona, who is her mother's twin sister, and Wynona's son Richard. Richy was often mistaken as one of Ray's siblings, he was with them so often. He's two years older than Shawn and owns his own business; a Bouncy House Wonderland of sorts where kids (and Rachel) could spend hours exploring. Keeda is his best non-paying customer.
CHILDHOOD:Rachel had a good childhood, though her parents were not around very often. She had two older siblings and her cousin to take care of her until Shawn rolled around and she learned to take care of someone else. She went to the best schools and hung out with the best crowd and participated in the best sports and extracurriculars up until she turned 16.
HARDSHIPS: No one knows what it is about being sixteen that makes you hate your parents and want to go against every rule that they've ever set, but it's easy to make bad decisions as a 16-year-old, and it happens very often that said decisions end up shaping the rest of your life. When Ray turned sixteen, she stopped going to bonfires with her siblings and riding her bike with Shawn and going to the water park and eating cake and Kool-Aid every day. She had a major mental growth spurt, and it landed her right in the middle of a dangerous alcoholism. It started slow, with just a few stolen sips of the Bourbon that had been sitting on top of the fridge for years, but then her need for it grew stronger and stronger until she was a full-fledged alcoholic. The alcohol stayed with her long after high school. She struggled with it for years, and it impaired her judgement to the point of having unprotected sex with a sixteen-year-old and getting pregnant. Despite past pleas from her family and three unsuccessful visits to rehab, it was the baby that finally did it for Rachel. With Keeda in the picture, she had no problems stopping, because now it wasn't just about destroying herself. Though it's been a struggle, she hasn't had a drink in two years. She doesn't mind, however, Gage's habits as long as they don't get too out of hand. She thinks it's great that he can do things like that without completely losing control, and she's even a little bit jealous. It's not a big deal, though, because now she has to focus on her job, making enough money to get by, and raising Keeda without Gage there to help all the time. Not to mention sneaking into AMG every now and then.
PRESENT: Rachel also struggles with her parents' disapproval of Gage. While they act normally around Rachel and Keeda, anytime they see Gage they ignore him to the best of their ability and they never speak about him. Rachel has gotten in arguments with them about it, and is afraid that they may cease to speak to her, as well, but she refuses to back down.
Ray Says:I want the best for my daughter, and she shouldn't be without her father or her grandparents, but if I had to choose, it would be Gage every time. I wish they would just get the frip over it already. It happened, it's done with, and Gage is a nice guy. They can't change what happened and they can't change him. I wish they could figure that out.
YELLOW
TRUTHS: passions/dreams/loves/wishes
PASSIONS: The only thing that Rachel is more passionate about than hair is her family. She hopes, when Gage is a little bit older, to have a real family with a lot of kids and a load of tacky traditions. She loves being a mom just as much as she loves doing hair, but because of her jobs, she has difficulty finding time for Keeda. She takes on a lot of extra hours and is worried about Keeda spending more time at daycare than at home. She wishes Gage could be at home to stay with her, and can't wait for him to finish school.
DREAMS:Rachel wants to open up her own beauty shop. She doubts that it will ever happen, but when she can't sleep at night, she's always used the time to plan everything out in her head. She's got a pretty clear idea of her dream shop already.
LOVES: Cake, water guns, colorful furniture, soda, Gage, Keeda, Shawn, Richard, Jasmine, James, her parents, bubble gum, video games, Burger King, hair, Disney, colorful anything, bikes, zebras, paint, hiking, New York, X-Men
WISHES: for Gage to come home, for her parents to accept Gage, for Keeda to have a good life
Ray Says:I would call it Ray Ray's Space and all of the mirrors would be shaped like flying saucers. There would be a water gun at every station and Free Afro Fridays.
GREEN
LIES: problems/obstacles/flaws
PROBLEMS: broken tv, not enough money, boyfriend at school, most of this has already been stated
OBSTACLES: Ray's main obstacle for reaching her goals is lack of money.
FLAWS: hates cleaning, has a problem controlling her impulses, gets angry without warning, immature, no fliter, recovered alcoholic, problem taking responsibility for her actions
Ray Says:None of that is my fault and that last one isn't even true. Geez.
BLUE
STRENGTHS: friends/lovers/crutches/virtues
FRIENDS: Ray loves people. She really does. It's genuinely very difficult for her to find faults in a lot of people. She also has the mindset thatYOLOyou only live once and you don't do it for a very long time, so it isn't worth your tiem to be hateful. However, that tends to make her a tad on the naive and reckless side. Since Keeda was born, that part of her has become a little bit withdrawn, but it's still there and it still gets her into trouble sometimes. Her family worries about her a lot, because she's too trustworthy.
LOVERS: Gage is the only man for Ray. Shawn admires him but keeps his distance. James is not a fan, but Jasmine and Richy both adore him and think that once he matures a bit, he'll be a terrific father to Keeda.
CRUTCHES: Ray leans on her siblings more than anything. Particularly the older ones. They took care of her when she was younger and she got used to it. She isn't eager to let go of that safety net. She also, to some extent, relies on Gage a little bit more than is fair, and she gets angry with him when he doesn't rise to her expectations.
VIRTUES: Ray is accepting and big-hearted. She's creative and funny and laid-back and a joy to be around. She's a good mom and has a heart made of gold.
Ray Says:Nothing is worth being hateful and D-U-M-B. I'm not gonna waste my time waitin' on people to be perfect, 'cause it ain't happenin' in my lifetime. I'll just sit back and love what I've got here already.
INDIGO
WEAKNESSES: vices/heartbreaks/enemies
VICES: To replace the alcohol, Ray's turned a little bit to online gambling. The money is fake and it keeps her sated, so, for now, it's harmless.
HEARTBREAKS: As a youngster, Ray had a tendency to fall in love fast and hard. She's had her fair share of heartbreak because of it, but nothing exceedingly significant.
ENEMIES: The only enemy of Ray's is any enemy of her family.
Ray Says:Ain't no thang but a chicken wang.
VIOLET
EXTRAS: opinions/stories/self-esteem
OPINIONS: She adores the idea of a school for the super natural, she thinks private schools are stupid, she's a Democrat (she actually doesn't know anything about politics but she likes to be able to answer the question if it's ever asked), she loves America, and she thinks that people, individually are intelligent, but people in a group are D-U-M-B.
The Terrifying Mango Fiasco: (as told by Ray)I was with Jasmine at this new Fresh Whatever Market thing that she kept bugging me to go to.And there were mangos there. I've never had a mango before, so I went to the stall with the mangos in it and he had out these little mini plastic cups with mango in them. It was this oriental guy. And I asked him if I could try one of them and he nodded with this really big stupid grin okay. He was very, "OH YEAH OF COURSE" so what I do is I grab two of the plastic cups. One is for Jasmine. But then the little dude flips the heck out and starts jumping up and down like I stole his wife or something, pointing and saying, "SHE THIEF. STEAL SHOT. SHE THIEF." So then I'm almost tackled by this security guard and I'm so confused at this point. I'm trying to explain myself to the guard when Jasmine comes over and points this sign out to me. "MANGO SHOTS- THREE DOLLARS." Like, vodka mangos or something. It was bizarre. I almost got arrested and almost started drinking again in the same day. I never went back to that damn market shit ever again.
SELF-ESTEEM:Ray's generally very confident. She knows she's pretty, but she doesn't think she's better than everyone else and she isn't shallow. She does not have self-esteem issues and she is not arrogant.
Ray Says:That stupid freaking mango guy. I don't know what he thought I was asking. You shouldn't be able to work in America at important things like that if you can't even understand your customers.
